Plans to open a new primary school will be approved by the Government in the coming weeks.

The new Millbrook Park School, in Mill Hill East, is intended to ease the pressure on other heavily oversubscribed schools in the area.

If successful, it will be run by the London Diocesan Board Schools through its LDBS Academies Trust.

It will offer an open admissions policy similar to all community schools in Barnet, and offer equal priority to all children who apply, irrespective of faith.

Barnet borough councillor Reuben Thompstone, cabinet member for education, children and families said: “We are delighted with the proposal being put forward by the London Diocese Board for Schools.

“I am particularly excited at the opportunity to work closely alongside the heavily oversubscribed St Paul’s primary school nearby as we move towards the new school’s opening.

“We await the final decision of the schools minister, but once made, I look forward to welcoming the new school into the Barnet family of schools.”

If approved, Millbrook Park School will become part of the network of Church of England primary schools in the area.

The school will open to nursery and reception age pupils from September 2014.   To apply, e-mail school.admissions@barnet.gov.uk by 12 February 2014.
