A Finchley school governor has been given the task of helping improve school management and performance across the UK.

Sebastian Wood, chairman of governors at The Compton School, has been appointed to the role of National Leader of Governance (NLG) by the National College for Teaching and Leadership.

He will join a group of chairmen of governors, all from schools with an Ofsted 'outstanding' rating for leadership and management, and will be trained by the college to offer support and advice to other chairmen.

Mr Wood said: “The NLG designation is a tremendous honour. The NLG programme comes at a critical time with school governance being such a focus in the national school agenda.

“I am proud of what the governing body at The Compton School has achieved over the past few years and I look forward to the opportunity to share my experiences in support of other governing bodies.”

Headteacher Teresa Tunnadine said: “I’m immensely pleased for Sebastian. He has worked tirelessly for the Compton School. He is extremely generous in giving of his own free time and his energy and drive have been instrumental in developing the highly important leadership role of governors within the school.”
