Scouts from Barnet joined 36 others on a training weekend for the camp of a lifetime in Japan.

Eight scouts from the borough joined the first step towards the 23rd World Scout Jamboree 2015 during a team-building weekend at Frith Grange Scout Camp, in Frith Lane, Mill Hill.

Next year’s three-week jamboree will incorporate almost 30,000 people from nearly every country in the world, and last weekend, north London’s representatives began their preparations.

Between now and next summer, the teenagers will learn to live and work together, as well as holding a series of events to help raise £28,000 towards their trip.

A portion of these funds will go towards a solidarity fund aimed at enabling Scouts from the developing world to attend the Jamboree.

Rekhelan, 16, from Evolution Explorer Scout Unit said: “I can’t wait to meet people from all over the world and so many different cultures. Only Scouting can provide these kinds of opportunities for international travel and to be part of a massive global event.”
