Tributes have been paid to a well-loved choral singer who “made everybody smile”.

Edith Violet Tyler loved to sing and was a chorister at St Mary’s RC Church in East Finchley in the 1960s before moving on to perform with the Moonshiners choral group who toured Barnet and neighbouring boroughs.

But her day job was working a seamstress and later as a sub-caretaker at North Finchley Library.

Mrs Tyler, who was known locally as Vi, married her husband Les on Christmas Day, 1948 in King's Cross, and they went on to have two sons, Paul and Mike.

Paul Tyler, who is now 57-years-old, said: “She was an excellent mother, always cheerful and always singing. She made everybody smile when she was in their company.

“She was well-loved throughout the area and was a popular character.”

Paying tribute to Mrs Tyler, family friend Ron Crewdson, said: “She was a very nice, cheerful person who would always look on the positive side of things. She was an uplifting figure who will be missed.”

Mrs Tyler, who lived in Lewes Road, Friern Barnet, died aged 85 and her funeral was held at Islington and St Pancras Cemetery.
