An MP urged people to get involved in Neighbourhood Watch at an event dedicated to cutting burglary in Barnet.
Theresa Villiers, the parliamentary representative for Chipping Barnet, visited the anti-burglary roadshow in Chipping Barnet Library on Saturday, meeting organisers from the police and council on Saturday.
Burglary in the area has dropped by 27 per cent in recent months and the Conservative MP said the figures are a credit to the determination of all of these groups.
The Northern Ireland Secretary also paid tribute to Barnet Boroughwatch – the borough-wide Neighbourhood Watch group.
She said: “They play such a crucial role in crime prevention and rely almost entirely on the efforts of volunteers to carry out their work. They do a great service to our community.
"I would encourage all my constituents to consider getting involved in Neighbourhood Watch.”
Visitors to the roadshow were given crime prevention advice and told about schemes including ‘Care and Share’, a council-run programme that enables elderly people to get free assistance in making their homes safer.
