Two young swordsmen brought gold and silver medals home to Hendon after finding they were the last men standing in a fencing tournament.

Alessandro Gill and Brij Gautam faced each other in the final of the Under 13’s Leon Paul Junior Series in Ealing.

In close match between the pair, who both attend Salle Paul’s Leon Paul Fencing Centre in Hendon, but it was Alessandro who came out on top, winning 10-7.

Also joining the medal tally for Salle Paul was Ben Stezaker, who won bronze in the Under 15 boys’ competition.

Alessandro’s father David Gill, whose daughter Isabella is also a member of Salle Paul, said: “We believe that fencing has not only provided our children with a sporting outlet where they meet others from all walks of life but also helps them think for themselves at a very early age.

“Fencing has also helped develop their sense of fairness and playing by the rules, which is an important part of contributing to society as a whole, and we would recommend it to any parent looking for a sport that is both exciting and character-building.”
