Scouts let their adventurous sides take over when they joined hundreds of others in a hiking challenge.

The Hendon and Edgware District Explorer Scouts, who meet in Church End, Hendon, braved freezing temperatures during the ‘Southern 50 Hike.’

Teams had to navigate a series of checkpoints on a map within 24 hours, and entered three teams into the 30km and 50km routes over the Chiltern Hills.

The Blazing Angels, one of Hendon’s three teams, completed the 50km event in just ten hours and eight minutes, finishing 10th place in the national competition.

Katie Freedman, 15, said: “It was an amazing event.  I never realised that I could walk that far.  I love doing this kind of scouting event as it pushes me to my limits”.
