Churchgoers sipped cups of coffee and nibbled on homemade Fairtrade biscuits as they helped raise money to support some of the world's poorest communities.

St Margaret's Church in Station Road, Edgware, hosted a Big Brew event to raise money for Tradecraft which supports Fairtrade farmers.

More than 80 people turned out to sample Fairtrade teas and coffees, as well as homemade biscuits shaped like teapots and bananas.

Guests also got stuck into arts and crafts, knitting tea cosies and coasters, as well as taking part in quizzes, competitions and children’s activities.

Vanessa Bergman, who helped organise the event, said: “St Margaret’s Church is very community minded – it’s not just a church where people come to pray and worship, it’s much more than that.

“Events like this is our way of demonstrating we’re at the heart of the community, and supporting a worthy cause.”

The event raised £150 for Tradecraft, which will use the money to help people in developing countries.
