Brothers who studied for their apprenticeship course together have received awards for their .

Donal John Mackessy and Tadhg Mackessy, from Hendon, earned while they learned at the College of North West London with J Murphy & Sons last year.

While Don studied for his level 2 carpentry course, Tadgh worked towards his level 3 electrotechnical services qualification.

Since passing his exams, Donal has moved to Australia where he is working as a carpenter, and his brother is now working permanently at J Murphy & Sons.

The duo were honoured for their achievements at an awards ceremony at their former college, in Dollis Hill, on Thursday night.

Tadhg said: “I gained such great experience as an apprentice including working on big sub-stations for National Grid and in the tunnels at Kings Cross station. 

“I have always been very good with my hands but I struggled with the theory and maths and I got a lot of support and help from the tutors at college with all of that. 

“The facilities there were great. We got to understand all of the work that we were doing on site when we got back to the classroom.”
