A £72,000 renovation at a play park in Temple Fortune gets underway later this month – but volunteers are needed to help clear the area before the work can begin.

The Friends of Northway Gardens are looking for helpers to remove wood chippings from the play area between 10am and 4pm on Sunday.

Barnet Council has put forward £50,000 for the redevelopment of the park, which includes the installation of a new play area, while a further £22,000 was raised by the friends group.

Group member Katie Astaire said: "We are delighted that work will begin on the new playground in the next couple of weeks.

“We really wanted to get local residents involved in the redevelopment process, and are hosting a community day where we hope people can spare as little as 20 minutes of their time to help remove the current woodchip flooring. I am sure it will be a lovely day and hope to see people there.”
