A creative schoolgirl who designed a greenhouse has won a national competition for her quirky idea.

Hannah Beckett, who goes to Belmont Preparatory School, in The Ridgeway, Mill Hill, wowed the judges of the Aluminum Design & Technology Challenge, run by Alupro.

The year eight pupil was told to design a garden building inspired by nature, and created a potting shed based on the shape of a poppy pod.

She impressed the judges with her careful consideration of materials - using cast and laser cut aluminum and reclaimed glass and wood.

Hannah won a 3D cube printer for her school and will attend Mill Hill Upper School next year with a design and technology scholarship.

The school's head of design and technology Vanessa McSween, said: “Hannah researched her designs very thoroughly and presented some incredible work – Belmont School is very proud of her.”
