A man has died after being hit by a train in Hadley Wood.

British Transport Police and the London Ambulance Service were called to Hadley Wood train station tunnel in Crescent West, yesterday evening at 11.22pm.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A  BTP spokesman said: “The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the man and inform his family.”

The train is believed to have been a high speed train travelling from London Kings Cross to Leeds.

The incident caused travel disruptions with trains being delayed or cancelled from 12am until 1.55am this morning.

Members of the public and BTP officers took to social media site Twitter after the collision.

Chief Superintendent Paul Brogden praised the work of his colleagues who dealt with the fatality.

He tweeted: “Well done to Insp Harfield and her response team who dealt with a difficult fatality scene last night at Hadley Wood tunnel.”

@railwaychaplain said: “thoughts with all effected by last night’s fatality, especially the driver, also emergency services, passengers and family of person.”
