Children took a trip to the home of British cricket when they played in a tournament against other schools.

The London Borough of Barnet Boys cricket team achieved bronze medal position at the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games 2014 at Lord's.

The year 7 and 8 pupils beat the Tower Hamlets team with 77 runs to 75 in the quarter finals, following an extremely close match.

Although feeling confident, they then faced a very talented London Borough of Southwark team who proved just a fraction too strong for Barnet in the semi-final.

The team were given the chance to play at the grounds after a qualifying event at Harrow Leisure Centre, where they beat Islington, Hammersmith and Fulham.

Barnet’s coach Yohan Peries, a former Sri Lankan international player who has also competed at the highest level, said: “The boys worked really hard before and during the competition through dedication and commitment.

“They were a really talented group and had an excellent attitude.

“They were a great mix from many different schools in Barnet and, although disappointed not to reach the final, really supported each other even after losing the semi-final."
