Hundreds of people “shopped ‘til they dropped”, helping raise £25,000 at a charity gift sale.

More than 500 shoppers turned out to support Chai Cancer Care's Passover Gift Sale at their flagship centre in Great North Way, Hendon, yesterday.

There were stalls selling a variety of gifts including confectionery, baby and children’s clothing, accessories, millinery, homeware and beauty products.

Shoppers also had the chance to buy jewellery handmade by the members of the Chai Jewellery Workshop and ceramics hand decorated by the Chai Ceramics Workshop.

The proceeds will go to Chai Cancer Care, which supports members of the Jewish community who have been affected by cancer including patients, their family and friends.

On behalf of the Chai Society Committee that organised the event, Tania Levenfiche said: “Myself and my co-chair, Julia Abrams, would like to thank the volunteers who worked tirelessly with the support of Chai staff to raise over £25,000.

“Chai needs the community's generosity to help raise the £2million it will cost to provide its services this year. I am delighted that the gift sale will help them achieve this.”

Chai’s chairman Louise Hager said: “The gift sale not only raises much needed funds for Chai, but also is an ideal opportunity for many to visit Chai for the first time and experience the special atmosphere that has such a positive effect on all those who benefit from our specialised services.”
