A 61-year-old who took up running in her fifties is appealing for last minute London Marathon donations to support a local sports club.
Ros de la Bertauche is taking part in the race to raise money for the East Barnet Old Grammarians Football Club, based in Alan Drive, Mays Lane.
The long distance runner only took up running in her fifties to keep fit. She joined Barnet and District AC running club to keep fit - and says she has not looked back.
She feels taking on the 26-mile race on Sunday is the ideal way to support grass roots sport.
She said: “Community sports clubs like the running club I belong to, and East Barnet Old Grammarians provide excellent community resources for the Barnet area and are run entirely by volunteers and funded by membership fees and the fundraising efforts of club members.
“It has been a particularly hard year for the football club, which spent a lot of money last summer maintaining pitch drainage work.”
