A police dog proved better than teams of officers and a helicopter when it found a vulnerable elderly man who had gone missing.

Mykola Muzyka, 92, went missing from his care home in Claremont Way, Cricklewood yesterday evening.

Police leading the search believed he might be in a wooded area off the street, but the undergrowth was so dense a police helicopter could provide little help and initial searches failed to find the elderly man.

The decision was taken to send in a police dog, and it was soon able to locate Mr Muzyka, who had got tangled up in an area of dense undergrowth.

Police took Mr Muzyka back to his care home. He appeared to be unharmed apart from minor scratches.
