A group of opticians’ staff took part in a series of fundraising activities from sponsored walks to Hawaiian fun days to raise money for Sport Relief.

Specsavers Barnet optical assistant and clinic co-ordinator Sajida Gitay and optical assistant Neera Raghwani managed to raise more than £2,100 for the charity.

Sajida raised almost £500 by taking part in a sponsored six-mile walk while Neera completed a sports leadership programme at her school raising more than £1,500.

Together with Specsaver’s staff, they also held a Hawaiian-themed charity fun day including a Hawaiian dance, raffle and cake sale.

Sajida said: “Sport Relief is such a fantastic charity and I was determined to raise as much money as I could doing the walk. I was also delighted to have the support of my colleagues and our customers as it made such a difference knowing they were behind me.”

Neera’s mum Pragna Raghwani, who is also store director of Specsavers in Barnet, said: “Sport Relief is a huge date on the fundraising calendar and an extremely worthwhile cause. Sajida did amazingly well with her walk and the generosity of local residents has been incredible.

"I’m also extremely proud of my daughter Neera and her dedication to the charity.”
