Neighbours will now be the eyes and ears of the community after the launch of a new police scheme.

Neighbourhood Watch has now been rolled out in Grahame Park to help stamp out crime in the area.

Set up by the new Hendon Village Residents Association, with support from local Safer Neighbourhood Teams and Borough Watch, it will cover 380 properties in Colindale.

The new volunteers gathered at The Concourse, in Grahame Park, for a formal handover from Barnet Borough Watch chairman Maureen West.

She said: “They have put in a huge amount of work to launch these watches and I'm very proud to recognise their hard work and dedication.

“In this process they have been ably encouraged by Genesis Housing and Colindale Neighbourhood Policing Team and we thank them for their continued support and determination to see these schemes launched.”

Under the new arrangements, Grahame Park residents will work closely together and in partnership with local agencies to help build community spirit, reduce crime and fear of crime and improve their local environment.

Carol Johnson, who has lived in Grahame Park for 40 years, said: "I'm absolutely delighted we've now got this watch - it's such an achievement. The association is such a great and diverse group of people and I'm thrilled to be part of it."
