A man who threw corrosive chemicals over a 42-year-old man in an unprovoked attack has been jailed for eight years.

Anthony Furniss, 43, of Larch Green, Barnet, threw the fluid from a white bottle over the man in Studio Mews, Finchley, on Friday, October 25.

The victim turned and used his arms to protect his face but shortly afterwards felt a strong burning sensation to his shoulders, arms and back.

He ran to a nearby taxi rank where a controller phoned police.

The ambulance service arrived and took the victim to a north London hospital where he spent four days in care with chemical burns.

Furniss was convicted of throwing corrosive fluid with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and was jailed for eight years.

Detective Constable Mustafa Dogan said: β€œThe victim has scars and tissue damage to remind him of his unprovoked attack.

β€œ I would like to thank the victim who has shown incredible bravery throughout this investigation and I would also like to thank the witnesses who assisted this case.”
