Police are encouraging people to attach bells to their wallets to deter pickpockets and thieves.

The Broadwalk Centre, in Station Road, Edgware, is working with the Metropolitan Police to distribute safety alarms to shoppers.

The bag bells can be attached to any wallet to alert owners to potential thieves while out shopping or in busy public areas.

They were introduced after a spike in people reporting picket pockets around Edgware. People can pick up their free bells from police stations or the Broadwalk Centre.

These are excellent deterrents and have been successfully used in Harrow in other places such as the Town Centre some time back. Please could we have details where members of public ,outside Edgware wishing to acquire these (even if they need to pay the nominal charge) might get hold of them.

Request the device is publicised in the local Press and perhaps our Borough Commander write more about this in our local papers.

Here's a better deterrent. Give thieves a proper custodial sentence.
