Women attended a charity event to raise money for a Jewish charity’s work in supporting vulnerable people in Ukraine.

World Jewish Relief held the Old Bags Brunch at the Pillar Hotel, in Hendon, to support its work in assisting vulnerable elderly, disabled and single parent families in the country.

People recycled their old designer handbags to be auctioned off and raise awareness for WJR.

The event, which featured talks from members of the Jewish community, raised over £25,000 for the cause.

Georgie Tarn, founder of cookery brand Jewish Princess, hosted the event and spoke about the importance of the charity.

She said: “It is always there in times of crisis and never more so than now with the worrying events taking place in the Ukraine .

“The idea behind the Old Bags Brunch was to raise money by recycling old designer handbags- after all, what woman can say no to a handbag.

“I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our community supporting this event, not only by digging deep into their pockets to raise over £25,000 but by digging deep into their wardrobes as well.”

Guest speaker Karen Pine, an author, writer and professor of psychology at the University of Hertfordshire, spoke about why many women have a penchant for handbags.
