Councillor Hugh Rayner has said he is “absolutely delighted” to be appointed the new mayor of Barnet.
The Hale ward councillor was sworn in as the borough’s 50th mayor at Hendon Town Hall. His wife Susan will serve as mayoress.
The former RAF squadron leader and current chairman of Air Cadet’s East Barnet squadron has chosen to support two charities including the Royal Air Force Museum, and Barnet Association for the Blind, for which his wife is a volunteer.
Cllr Rayner said: “I’m absolutely delighted.
“We’re looking forward to meeting lots of people and visiting lots of organisations in the borough which go to make Barnet such a diverse place.
“In particular I’d like to visit and value the military organisations within the life of the borough. And, I’m looking forward to the World War One commemorations.”
Councillor David Longstaff has been appointed as deputy mayor.
