Lively music and the bright lights of the funfair will fill East Barnet at the town’s annual festival.

Dance and theatre performances, stalls and a dog show will be among the many attractions at this year’s East Barnet Festival, which organisers hope will be the biggest and best yet.

Last year, nearly 22,000 people turned up to the popular event, which is now in its 24th year.

Organiser Barry Ainsworth said: “We’ve got all sorts of events on, there will be so much.

“It’s usually got a really nice party atmosphere. We call it a grand day out for all the family.

“It gives people the chance to chill out and meet old and new friends. There’s something for everyone.”

He hopes the unpredictable weather will not stand in the way of the event, as two years ago he was forced to cancel it after heavy rainfall.

Held over three days, Barnet-based bands including Soultax and Silenzers will give performances on stage.

It will be held at Oak Hill Park, in East Barnet Village, on Friday, July 4 from 6pm to 9pm, Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6 from noon until 9pm.
