A 92-year-old war veteran’s medals have been found.

The man was at home on Friday – the 70th anniversary of the D-Day bombings - when a man claiming to be from the water company knocked on his door to check the water pressure.

But after he left, the veteran, who had served in the Grenadier Guards during the Second World War, noticed his medals and jewellery had gone missing.

Although the medals have since been recovered, the items of jewellery are yet to be found.

The man who gained entry to the house is described as a white man, approximately 5ft 10ins tall and of stocky build, and he spoke with an Irish accent.

He wore grey clothing, described as the type an engineer would wear.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
