Families are celebrating 50 years of the street they live in with a special party.

Baxendale, in Whetstone, was built five decades ago by Joseph Baxendale.

He made his money in the horse and cart business, and then built himself a house known as Woodside.

Now known as Barnet House, next to Baxendale Road, it was turned into a botanic garden and a retirement home for women.

But the trustees of the house decided they needed a new building, and so Baxendale Road was officially born in 1964.

The first two blocks of houses sold for £97,50 and the first family to move in, Douglas and Marjorie Webster, arrived n May 1964.

Past and present residents are invited to the party, which will be held on Sunday, June 22 from 1pm.
