A charity that helps make life less ruff for dogs and other animals is calling on people to celebrate a milestone anniversary.

The RSPCA turns 190 this month - and in honour of the event the Friern Barnet branch, based in Pets at Home, in Pegasus Way, will hold a party.

Volunteers are inviting people into the shop this Friday to find out more about the charity and take part in quirky animal themed activities.

Games include ‘pin the microchip on the doggy’, a raffle draw and hide and seek.

Georgina Holding, a rehoming coordinator in Friern Barnet, said: “We want to celebrate the society as a whole. When it first began, it was more about working animals such as ponies.

“We weren’t a nation of animal lovers back then but as the RSPCA has grown, we’ve also grown to appreciate animals more.”

The RSPCA says 45,000 animals pass through the centres every year and also include an adoption service.

Cats are available to adopt from the store, and dogs are often brought over from the Potters Bar branch on weekends.

It will be held on Friday, June 20 from 3pm to 6pm.
