Barnet's group leaders to be consulted over whether committee meetings can still go ahead
Updated 9:45am Wednesday 18th June 2014 in News
A Barnet Borough Council boss says committees could still sit before the authority's next full meeting after an error threatened to bring its decision making process to a halt.
Earlier today, Barnet Borough Council released a statement saying no committees will sit until July 15 after their makeup was incorrectly calculated.
However, chief executive Andrew Travers has since said he will consult with the Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat group leaders on whether meetings should take place as normal.
The error means decisions taken by the committees since May could be rendered null and void.
According to the council's legal advisor, barrister James Gaudie, decisions taken by committees in the meantime would still be valid.
Last night’s assets and regeneration and growth committee meeting ground to a halt when Mr Travers informed councillors of the error.
In the meantime, this evening’s licensing committee meeting has been rescheduled.
