Runners aged from one to 71 took part in a fun run to raise money for cancer sufferers.

More than 150 people took part in the Maccabi GB Community Fun Run in aid of Hendon's Chai Cancer Care at Allianz Park on Sunday.

Chai's chief executive Lisa Steele took part in the challenge and ran the 10K on behalf of Kim Blackman, who is supported by Chai's services.

Ms Blackman, said: "At the age of 44, as a fit and apparently healthy woman, I was suddenly diagnosed with bowel cancer last October. I had colorectal surgery to remove part of the bowel then six months of chemotherapy, which ended last month and I am very grateful that my scan gave me the all clear.

"I was very touched by the services provided by Chai Cancer Care and the gentle, caring environment it provides. It was exactly what I needed during a very scary time."

Also amongst this year's Chai team was Charlotte Gillis who ran the 1K race with her daughter Jemima in her buggy.

She said: "With a 22-month-old refusing to walk or go in the buggy, it was more of a 1K schlep - but what a fabulous day.

"The sun shining and the wonderful atmosphere combined to put everyone in the best of spirits. It was so special to see the whole community uniting whilst raising money for individual charities. We'll be back next year with the whole family."

The runners, who were between one and 71, raised £16,000 for Chai.

Chai's chairman, Louise Hager, said: "The Maccabi GB Community Fun Run provides a great opportunity for families to get fit and have a fun day out whilst raising money for their chosen charity.

"The money they raised will help us to continue to provide our expertise and care."
