Hundreds of runners flew around the track during a “unique” race to raise money for a host of Jewish charities.

More than 1,000 people took part in the 8th Maccabi GB Community Fun Run at Allianz Park, in Greenlands Lane.

The final total raised is still being counted, but money will be donated to Camp Simcha, Emunah, Holocaust Educational Trust, Jewish Blind & Disabled and many more.

Runners were given the opportunity to choose the 1km, 5km or 10km races with some choosing all three.

Israel’s ambassador to England Daniel Taub started the 5km race, running the first 100m.

Event organiser, Maccabi GB’s Emma Nagli, said: “Since we launched this unique event in 2007 the numbers have continued to rise year on year and this year was no exception.

“The day had a number of highlights, however, what stood out for me was seeing Jewish people from all backgrounds and of all ages come together, no matter how often they may take part in exercise, and run or walk a race which they knew would help raise money for their chosen charity.

“That feeling is one that you would find hard to top.”
