Buses in London will no longer accept cash fares from Sunday as the capital’s transport provider moves to a cashless system.
Passengers will only be able to board a bus using Oyster cards, a contactless payment bank card or a prepaid or concessionary ticket.
Transport for London says just one per cent of passengers still use cash to pay for their bus tickets.
Mike Weston, TfL’s director of buses, said: “The way our customers pay for goods and services is evolving, so we need to ensure our ticketing evolves too.
“Removing cash from our bus network not only offers customers a quicker and more efficient bus service, it enables us to make savings of £24m a year, which will be reinvested to further improve London’s transport network.”
