A nursery has lost its registration to provide childcare after inspectors warned it would place children at risk.

Mini Me’s Nursery and Pre-School in Fallows Court, East Finchley, took Ofsted to a tribunal for removing it from its list of registered providers – but lost its appeal.

Education regulator Ofsted served a notice of intention to cancel Mini Me's registration on September 19 last year on the grounds that continued registration would place “children at risk of significant harm and seriously compromise their welfare and development”.

Mini Me’s attempted to fight the decision, but in a report issued by the Care Standards Tribunal, Judge Melanie Lewis states the appeal was lost.

The report outlines Ofsted’s concerns, including poor knowledge of safeguarding issues and two managers having walked out without notice.

“Historic” concerns were also listed, including a non-member of staff holding a child’s hand, ointments that were left out and plastic nappy bags placed within reach of children.

The report concludes Mini Me’s had more than 18 months to bring about sufficient change but had not done so.

It states: “This was a nursery, which was set up by individuals with little experience to prepare them for running a business, let alone a business in childcare.

“At the date of the hearing a competent manager is in place with aspirations to do better, but this is very recent against a long history of very serious concerns which were not addressed adequately, despite many opportunities.

“Cancellation of registration is an appropriate and proportionate sanction in all the circumstances of the case.”

Mini Me’s Nursery and Pre-School declined to comment.
