A flag is flying high in celebration as Hertsmere Borough Council reaches its 40th anniversary.

Staff from Hertsmere Borough Council gathered outside the front of the Civic Offices yesterday as a flag was raised to mark the borough’s 40th anniversary.

Nearly 100 council officers were joined by the council leader Cllr Morris Bright and the Mayor of Hertsmere Cllr Carey Keates.

The authority's chief executive Donald Graham said: "Flying this special flag forms part of our 40th year celebrations.  The borough has changed tremendously in this time and it has been interesting to look back and reflect on what has been achieved.

"Residents who have lived in the area since 1974 will have seen a huge transition – we have seen major improvements to our infrastructure, parks, museums and leisure services, significant developments in our waste and recycling services and many advances in the way we communicate with our residents.

“Our celebrations will culminate on Sunday with the Mayor planting some special ruby roses at Bushey Rose Garden’s annual garden party, so please come along and join us.”

The Bushey Rose Garden party will take place from 2pm to 5pm with the roses being planted at approximately 3.30pm.
