Beavers, cubs and scouts are looking forward to celebrating a landmark year.

The 10th Finchley Scout Group turned 100 in June and plans to continue the celebration throughout the year.

Scout leader Robert Wanders said the group has many activities planned, including a fun day with activities such as crafts and archery, a camping trip in Scotland next month, and a trip to EuroDisney next year.

Adding that the group is thriving with about 85 members involved, he said: “Membership is key to character development for the children.

“It hones the kids' personalities, their commitment and their spirit. It gets them to commit and makes them self-reliant.”

The leaders of the scout group hope the 100th anniversary year will kick-start a programme of new activities.

Mr Wanders added: “We don’t want this just to stop as a one-off. We want to keep seeing group days and those types of big outings. We have excellent leaders, excellent members and we have lots of fun so why can’t we continue it for the next 100 years?”
