A father will head into the boxing ring in memory of his teenage son, who was killed outside his school.

Kiyan Prince was stabbed outside The London Academy, in Spur Road, Edgware, as he tried to break up a fight between fellow classmates in 2006.

His father, Mark, set up The Kiyan Prince Foundation in memory of the 15-year-old to teach young people about the dangers of knife crime.

Before his retirement with a knee injury 15 years ago, Mr Prince was a light-heavyweight boxing champion and held the WBO and IB titles.

Now, at the age of 45, he is planning to take part in another fight to raise money for the charity.

He said: “I’m delighted to be back in the ring, raising the profile of the foundation as we work to make sure other families don’t have to go through the heartbreak of losing a son or daughter.”

Before his death, Kiyan was a member of Queens Park Rangers youth football club and aspired to become a professional footballer.

The foundation now offers mentoring programmes, school talks, motivational speaking services, boxing and fitness programmes to help reduce street gang violence.

Mr Prince added: “It doesn’t have to be this way.

“With your support we can engage with young people and make sure they’re directing their energies into positive activities whether that’s sports, business or their communities.”

The boxing match will take place at York Hall, in Bethnal Green, on August 2. For more information, visit www.kiyan.org
