Shoppers were given free diabetes tests to find out if they are at risk of developing the disease.
Barnet Community Diabetes Team visited Tesco in Brent Cross to raise awareness about the condition, which causes high blood sugar.
Around 80 per cent of cases of type 2 diabetes could be delayed or prevented by making lifestyle changes.
More than 140 people visited the stand, which included advice on diet and weight management, including a food quiz.
People were also given a blood sugar test and some were referred to their doctor for further examinations.
Deputy mayor of Barnet, David Longstaff and Deputy Baroness Gillian Griffiths also attended the event.
