Students will help tackle the challenges faced by those coming out of prison at a national conference.

Angelina Karaivanova, 21, and Ivanka Zapryanova, 23, international business students at Middlesex University, in The Burroughs, Hendon, helped organise the Secure Estate of Mind conference.

The event, to be held at the university’s Grove building tomorrow, will look at the role race plays for those who come into repeated contact with the criminal justice system.

HRH Princess of Iraq Dr Nisreen El-Hashemite, and the High Sherriff of Greater London Kevin McGrath Esq, will also attend.

Angelina and Ivanka were inspired to take part after volunteering in The Gambia with the university’s Wellbeing Foundation.

During their visit, the pair, who originally come from Bulgaria, worked with Communities Without Borders, a non-governmental organisation that educates children in Africa, on various projects.

Ivanka said: “Organising a really high profile event like this has been such an enjoyable and challenging experience.

“It’s opened our eyes to serious social issues, and has also shown us how to communicate better with so many different people.”
