Footballers who get muddy on the field will be able to shower in their new changing rooms after being given a grant.

Potters Bar Town Football Club, in The Walk, has been offered £1,500 towards the new facilities which will be built later this year.

Five Hertsmere councillors pooled money from their ward improvement scheme, including Ruth Lyon, Abishek Sachdev, Penny Swallow and Martin Worster.

Earlier this week, Cllr Peter Knell donated an extra £1,000 from his locality budget. Peter Waller, president of the club, said: "The club has always been there for the community and we are now adding new changing rooms to replace those that are over 30 years old.

“We are extremely grateful to the Hertsmere councillors who have supported us and we look forward to the day when the extension is open.”

The club is offering free season tickets to those who attend a home game before September 30.
