Barnet’s MPs spent a total of more than £400,000 in their expenses last year.

Figures released by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority show that during 2013-14, the three Conservative MPs for Barnet spent £422,979.63 on expenses and office costs, with the majority spent on staffing.

All three MPs remained within budget for each spending category.

The total office and staff costs for Matthew Offord, MP for Hendon, came to £151,130.29, within the £169,350 budget maximum for the year. He also spent £347.83 on travel around the constituency, as well as to and from Parliament.

A spokesman for Matthew Offord said: “Matthew has demonstrated that it is possible to be a London MP without claiming for a second home, claiming for food and employing family members. This was a commitment he made at the last election and has done what he said he would do.”

Mike Freer, MP for Finchley and Golders Green, spent a total of £144,095.67 on office and staff costs. He also claimed £165.95 on travel.

Staff and office costs for Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, came to a total of £127,239.89.

A spokesman for Theresa Villiers said: "Theresa Villiers runs a fully-staffed constituency office on Barnet High Street, which is open all year round during working hours. She has sought appropriate value for money in relation to her office rent and this arrangement has been externally valued by a local surveyor, consistent with IPSA rules.

"Ms Villiers has a busy programme of constituency engagements but has not been claiming for the cost of travel in recent years. She has been advised not to comment on her travel arrangements because they are impacted by the security regime which comes with being Secretary of State for Northern Ireland."

The basic salary of the three MPs was £66,396.
