Police officers took to the streets to spread a crime prevention message.

More than 500 officers visited schools, high streets and shopping centres across Barnet today as part of the ‘clocks, locks and lights’ campaign, to give advice on preventing burglary in winter.

Volunteers from London Fire Brigade, neighbourhood watch and victim support groups also took part.

An open day took place at Allianz Park stadium, in Mill Hill, where pupils from schools across the borough tried out police equipment.

PCSO Jan Lovell, who spent the day in East Finchley speaking to people, said: “The day has gone really well, we’ve spoken to a lot of people. We’ve been out since 10am.

“There’s always an increase of crime in the winter months. I think the message has got through. It can be hard to reach people sometimes, so we’re always looking for new ways. I’ve enjoyed it, it’s been really worthwhile.”
