People will try to stamp out the stigma of mental health conditions at a series of events this week.

Barnet’s Multilingual Wellbeing Service, Barnet Voice for Mental Health, Mind in Barnet and Eclipse are supporting the event to help raise awareness and money for their causes.

The events form part of World Mental Health Day, which takes place today.

Today (Friday, October 10) people from all different cultures will attend a tea dance at St Mary’s Church Hall, in Hendon Lane, Finchley, from 1pm to 5pm.

Mayor of Barnet Hugh Rayner will open the event and there will be mental health presentations with guest speakers throughout the afternoon.

On Sunday (October 12) singers and musicians from across the borough will take part in an open mic and fundraising night at the Misty Moon Pub, in Barnet High Street.

All those who take part perform songs about mental health.

The evening is backed by the national Time to Change campaign, a partnership between Rethink and Mind with donations throughout the night being shared by Mind in Barnet and Barnet Voice for Mental Health.

All events are free. For more information visit www.worldmhd-barnet.org
