A mother who decided to inspire others to lose weight after dropping eight clothes sizes has won an award.

Sarah Reader, of Drayton Avenue, Potters Bar, has won Slimming World's ruby award for her work in helping tackle obesity in the area.

The 42-year-old, who runs the Potters Bar Slimming World at King Charles the Martyr Church, was presented with the prize after her group reached 40 members.

She said: “Rubies are known for being beautiful, but they’re also one of the hardest gems, and that’s what I’m most proud of because I am taking this award as recognition of how hard I work to support every single one of my members to achieve their weight loss goals.

“I truly believe I have the best, most rewarding job in the world. There’s no better feeling than helping someone to feel good about themselves, so winning this award really is the ruby red cherry on top.”

Weighing 14st 8lb before she lost weight, Sarah now fits into jeans and dresses which are a size ten or a 12, and said she feels much healthier, happier and more confident.

She added: “I know the thought of joining a group can be daunting, especially when you don’t feel very confident, but everyone is welcome and we have lots of fun.”

The group meets on Monday evenings at 5.30pm and 7.30pm and Tuesday mornings at 9.30am at the King Charles the Martyr Church, Potters Bar.
