Disabled people supported by a Barnet-based charity were invited to a “tailor made” conference to find out more about its services.

More than 40 people from Walsingham, in High Road, High Barnet, attended the two-day event in Solihull, Birmingham.

Charity bosses decided to organise a seminar to give disabled people the chance to meet others and give them a place to learn about their rights.

They were also invited to pitch ideas on how the organisation should be run.

During the event, they discussed recruitment, equality and human rights.

Speakers included Paul Snell, Walsingham’s chief executive, and Richard Bull, a member of the board of trustees who has a learning disability himself.

Mr Snell said: “Our conference was one of the largest gatherings of people we support in our history, and offered attendees a great opportunity to help shape Walsingham’s policies and on-going strategy."

A box of chocolates, donated by Hotel Chocolat, was raffled at the conference and raised £110 for the RSPCA.
