A seasoned beer drinker is hoping to land his dream job.

Chas Fenoughty, 34, from Barr Road, Potters Bar, is in the final three for a competition to become an official ale taster.

He was shortlisted after he submitted a video review to pub chain Taylor Walker, which is running the competition.

Mr Fenoughty, who had his first taste of ale at Barnet Rugby Club when he was younger, said: “I entered because I have a lifelong passion for beer, and particularly for real ale. The competition is going alright at the moment, although you cannot tell for sure. The only indication is your views on YouTube.”

He first heard about the competition at a beer festival in Old Street, London during the summer. Entries opened earlier this month.

Mr Fenoughty, who works in communications, added: “As soon as I heard entries were open, I had to stop what I was doing, and run to my local, The Cask and Stillage. I reviewed a pint of Trooper by Iron Maiden. It was a real hardship, of course.”

The competition closes this Sunday. You can watch the entries and vote at www.taylor-walker.co.uk/drink/ale-vote/
