A pupil’s artistic talent won her and her family a day out travelling first class.

Shira Inglis, 11, from Menorah Primary School in Golders Green, won a prize in East Coast’s 'happy journeys' competition, in which children were asked to submit travel-related pictures.

The competition, which supported the charity Railway Children, had nearly 1,000 entries.

Winners were chosen by children’s author and illustrator Judith Kerr and BBC CBeebies TV star Mister Maker.

Shira won first class family return tickets to any destination along the East Coast route, along with a signed copy of Judith Kerr's The Tiger Who Came to Tea.

The schoolgirl said: “I was so surprised that I won a prize out of loads of schools. I can’t believe it. It is a dream come true. I would like to thank my whole class for making a wonderful party for me.”
