MP Matthew Offord called on the government to take “firm action” and help women facing violence in Iran.

The Hendon MP took part in a conference at the House of Commons with a cross-party panel of dozens of MPs, to address human rights abuses in the Islamic state.

Mr Offord said Iran is one of the “worst” human rights violators in the world and that those responsible are promoted to higher offices, instead of facing justice.

Women in the country are often targeted for not properly wearing a veil and in the year since Iranian president Hassan Rouhani has been in power, 11 children and 30 women have been publicly hung or executed.

Mr Offord, who supports the The British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom, also called on Prime Minister David Cameron to spearhead a global campaign to demand for justice.
