A schoolboy is getting used to the cold after he raised more than £3,000 by shaving his head for charity.

Louis Dangoor, 14, who lives in Church Crescent, Whetstone, raised the money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, where his five-month-old cousin receives treatment for a cleft lip and palate.

A keen football fan, Louis raised the bulk of the money through his justgiving page, helped by a feature on Barnet FC’s website.

He presented the cheque for £3,239.80 at the hospital last week, after having his head shaved on December 12 at Aldenham School, in Elstree, where he is in Year 10.

Louis said: “I thought it would be a good way to raise money for the hospital, and for the doctors and everyone there. I set a target of £1,000, and within two days, I had already hit the target, so I kept raising it.

“I didn’t think I would raise that much, it’s because people are very generous. I am very proud I thought of it in the first place. People at the hospital were shocked someone so young could raise so much. I have helped a lot of people who are far less fortunate than I am.

“It’s cold without my hair. I won’t be shaving it off again anytime soon.”

Louis' grandfather, Lawrence Marshom, 63, said: “I couldn’t be prouder. It’s not so much the fund raising, but the thought behind it, and having the bottle to shave his hair off. He has his GCSEs and everything else to worry about, and Christmas parties and the like.

“He has been very dedicated, and really pushed it. Hopefully, in years to come, he will carry on. I think he will.”
