Potters Bar has been named as the seventh most sought-after commuter location to London.

Research undertaken by the property company CBRE ranked towns around the capital using house prices, average journey times and annual travel costs.

The research found that the average house price in Potters Bar is £460,066, with an average journey time of 25 minutes into London.

The research also found the average cost to commute from Potters Bar to London is £2,864 a year.

Other towns in Hertfordshire also made the list, with Rickmansworth named as the third most sought after location and St Albans eighth.

Potters Bar Parkfield councillor John Donne said it came as no surprise.

“I would have been surprised if they had said the opposite. It’s ideally situated as commuter land. It has excellent transport into London, and it has excellent schools of course. That’s why people want to move here. What else does a town need?

“The only problem with that is it makes it into a dormitory town. It is a bit sad.”

Cllr Donne, who has lived in Potters Bar for 54 years, said he did not worry that people would eventually be priced out of the town.

He added: “If people are coming here to live, then it means people can still afford to move here.”
