A Scottish nurse who was admitted to the Royal Free Hospital with Ebola has been discharged.

Pauline Cafferkey, who entered the Hampstead hospital for treatment in December, left on Saturday after making a complete recovery.

She caught the virus while caring for patients with Ebola in Sierra Leone, and was treated in the hospital’s high level isolation unit.

Ms Cafferkey said: “I am just happy to be alive. I still don’t feel 100 per cent, I feel quite weak, but I’m looking forward to going home. I want to say a big thank you to the staff who treated me - they were amazing. They were always very reassuring and I knew I was in the best hands. They saved my life.”
