Fit volunteers can flex their muscles as well as their green fingers and help plant an orchard.

People are being invited to Childs Hill Park, in Granville Road, Finchley, to help plant a selection of 15 fruit trees between the children’s playground and tennis courts.

Friends of Child’s Hill Park is asking for people to help put up tree protectors, which requires some strength.

The group, which was recently awarded a £50,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund, is being supported by Barnet Council’s Greenspaces Team.

Ingrid Posen, chair of The Friends of Childs Hill Park, said: “We approached the Urban Orchard Project last year to ask if they would help us plant an orchard in Childs Hill Park. We have been lucky enough to be included in this year’s planting programme and we are delighted that the council is supporting us on this.

“I want to encourage people to come along and help our park blossom in the spring and bear fruit in the autumn.”
