Plans for more than 230 homes in Colindale have been given the green light.

Barnet Borough Council’s planning committee approved planning consent for 237 properties in Beaufort Park, Colindale, when they met on Wednesday evening.

The proposals are part of the wider Aerodrome Road development in the area, and will consist of six blocks of up to ten storeys high.

A total of 70 flats - 33 per cent - will be affordable homes, with 28 being shared ownership meaning people will part-buy their properties.

Colindale councillor Nagus Narenthira told the committee she feared many of the homes would be bought by foreign investors, and the impact it would have on infrastructure and health services in the area.

Cllr Narenthira said: “Homes built in Colindale should be for the people of Colindale. There is an urgent need for affordable properties. Why can’t you provide the much needed affordable housing in Colindale?”

Developer St George has pledged to make a contribution towards the Colindale Underground station upgrade and provide space for a healthcare facility.

A report to the committee said: “The application has been the subject of an independent viability appraisal and the package of planning contributions including the affordable housing is considered the maximum that the scheme can afford.”
